Spring Cleaning: Time to "Swiffer" Your Life!

By Jan Carley, Certified Business and Life Coach

Spring is a great time for cleaning and decluttering and an even better time to swiffer your life “from the inside out”   (and I don’t mean trying Beyonce’s maple syrup and lemonade Master Cleanse either…that’s for another article!)
What I am talking about is using this springtime of renewal to get rid of the stuff in your life that is no longer serving you. To swiffer away the stuff that is standing in the way of you moving forward to create the life you want.  The symbolic “dust balls” crowding your brain.

Here are a few easy tips to help you start “Swiffering your Life”:

1/Chose an area of your life that needs to be swiffered first  (Setting priorities can easily focus your energies for more effective and immediate results)

2/ Some questions to ask yourself as you begin your swiffering process:

 (i) What thoughts am I thinking that are dragging me down and holding me back – could I give myself the gift of simply “swiffering” those negative thoughts away for a day? A week?  3 months?
(ii) Who in my life is a negative force?  (They say we are the average of the 5 people we spend the most time with.) Who am I spending my time with? Are they on a path of moving forward and making their lives better?  Or are they holding themselves (and me) back?
(iii) How am I spending my time? Do I fill it with things I want to do – that nurture me physically, emotionally, spiritually, intellectually?  Or are my days filled with things I feel I “should” do but don’t want to do?
(iv) What damaging habits aren’t working for me anymore?
(v)  What am I holding onto that is no longer serving me? (eg/ old emails from a work disagreement, old hurts from a long-ago personal disagreement, the pants you wore in high school that you think you might fit into again)

3/ Recognize that you can’t swiffer everything in your life at the same time. Even the smallest bit of “swiffering” makes a difference!

With your newly “swiffered” inner self you will feel a lightening of spirit, an untensing of your shoulders and have a feeling like somehow there is more space in your head to think again!   Use that space to dream…about the possibilities for this spring.
And hey, you may even be inspired to plant some new seeds and watch them grow.

Happy Swiffering!
