What is hair mineral analysis?
Hair tissue mineral analysis is a sophisticated laboratory evaluation for assessing mineral imbalances and toxicities in the human body. A small sample (less than a tablespoon) of scalp hair is submitted for this screening test to obtain information regarding various nutritional minerals and toxic metals.
Nutritional Minerals and Your Health
Nutritional minerals including magnesium, chromium, zinc, copper and selenium are obligatory co-factors for hundreds of important enzymes and also are essential for the normal functions of vitamins. In our bodies, nutritional minerals are essential for cellular metabolism, structural support, nervous system conductivity, muscular activities, immune functions, hormone activities, and even DNA function. An imbalance of either excesses or deficiencies of these nutritional minerals can lead to signs and symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, depression, irritability, nervousness, and recurrent infections.
Toxic Elements and Your Health
Human exposure to toxic elements has increased dramatically over the past 50 years from the use of various metals in the industrial processes. Toxic metal accumulations in the body such as: aluminum, arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury may interfere with proper vitamin and mineral utilization in the human body. Accumulation of toxic metals can lead to a multitude of signs and symptoms such as headaches, fatigues, anemia, skin rashes, delayed mental development, hyperactivity and behavioral problems in children, reduced sensory abilities (taste, smell, touch, vision, and hearing), metallic taste, emotional and mental disturbances, cardiovascular disturbances, renal impairment, and muscular dysfunctions.
Toxic elements may be 200-300 times more highly concentrated in hair than in blood or urine; therefore, hair mineral analysis serves as an inexpensive tool to evaluate possible toxic exposure.
