Physiotherapists are involved in health promotion, injury
prevention, treatment and physical rehabilitation. Physical therapy
practitioners at our Vancouver BC physiotherapy clinic help people move and
participate in life and in their communities, especially when movement and
function are threatened by ageing, injury, disability or disease. We provide
sports physiotherapy, injury rehabilitation therapy and much more!
Our physiotherapists manage and prevent many physical problems caused by
illness, disease, sport and work related injury, aging, and long periods of
inactivity.
What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is a professional health care discipline directed primarily towards the prevention or alleviation of movement dysfunction in people.
A Physiotherapist is a university graduate of an accredited Physiotherapy program, who is qualified to:
- Establish a physical diagnosis and determine a client's movement potential
- Plan and implement Physiotherapy treatment programs, using specialized knowledge and skills in exercise prescription and hands-on techniques for the prevention and treatment of movement dysfunction
- Undertake related professional activities such as research, teaching, administration and consultation.
Movement dysfunction is any alteration in normal body kinetics that limits effective or efficient body performance. Movement dysfunction may be due to pain, congenital anomalies, disease processes, accident or injury, enforced inactivity, problems secondary to aging, or psychological or social stress.
The dysfunction may be manifested in actual or potential impairment related to neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, respiratory or cardiovascular systems.
Many physiotherapists have additional post-graduate training in the areas of manual therapy, soft tissue release techniques, acupuncture and craniosacral therapy which are highly effective in treating these movement pattern dysfunctions.
Clients do not need a doctor’s referral to see a physiotherapist unless it is an ICBC claim related matter.
We have 2 Physiotherapists working on our Floor. Click Richard Boden BSc. PT or Maria Baljak BSc. MSc. PT to read their Biographies. Here are some treatments they specialize in:
