Mike Dixon - Registered Massage Therapist

Mike Dixon is a twenty-two year veteran of Massage Therapy. He is an educator, a published author, and an international presenter in massage therapy continuing education (Arthrokinetic Therapy). He is also the senior practical advisor at the West Coast College of Massage Therapy (WCCMT).

Mike graduated from West Coast College of Massage Therapy in 1986.

He has been teaching at the WCCMT since 1993 and has taught most courses in the practical department. His specialty is in orthopedics assessment and treatments. Mike also teaches at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine.

Mike has trained over 2000 massage therapists and naturopathic doctors. He has developed specialty courses in continuing education for massage therapists and naturopaths in the field of orthopedics and rehabilitation therapy. These courses have been titled "Arthrokinetic Therapy".

His latest achievement is the release of his new text book "Joint Play the Right Way for the Axial Skeleton" 2006, which involves a multidimensional approach to treating the spine and Pelvis.

He utilizes many different modalities in his clinical practice which include, but are not limited to, the following:

Active Stretching techniques
Muscle Energy
Joint play mobilizations
Fascial mobilizations
End loading and Spinal Decompression Techniques
Positional release and approximation Techniques
Dural mobilizations

Credentials and Allied Experience:

Has been a Registered Massage Therapist for 22 years.
Served on the board of the Massage Therapist Association of BC, and that of the College of Massage Therapists of British Columbia Canada since 1986.
At the College of Massage Therapists of British Columbia, served on the following committees: Scope of Practice Committee, Curriculum Committee, and the Agreement on Internal Trade of Canada Sub committee.
At the West Coast College of Massage Therapy, he has been on the Advisory Board, Curriculum Committee, Management Committee and Ethics Committee.
Mike has also served as the Director of Education and Practical Director at WCCMT

Mike's Spinal Decompression Traction Treatment Table for Low Back Pain

Mike has a specially designed treatment table, which allows him to position clients for spinal decompression and traction mobilizations for the neck, spine, pelvis and sacroiliac joints.

He is able to treat clients with special attention to back pain and compression syndromes. Disc injuries, Sciatica, Spinal Stenosis, Whiplash, Spondylolithesis and generalized low back pain are a few of the conditions that require spinal decompression.

Restoring the spinal curves is very important for spinal health and good visual appearances. Increased or decreased spinal curves can put a lot of undue stress on the muscles, vertebra, joints and discs in the spine. This added stress can lead to severe low back and neck pain. Scoliosis and Dowergers humps (upper back forward rounding) can be treated with a specially designed mobilization device. Mike is able to effectively utilize spinal decompression mobilizations with massage therapy for the best outcomes.
