Who would benefit from Allergy Testing?

If you are experiencing any of the below signs and symptoms you may benefit from allergy testing: wheezing when breathing, chest congestion, itchy eyes, nose, or throat; nasal congestion, runny nose, watery eyes, hives, rashes, itchy skin, cramping, diarrhea or bloating.

Generally speaking, inhaled allergens will produce signs and symptoms that affect the respiratory system and mucus membranes. Ingested (food) allergens will produce signs and symptoms on the skin or in the gastrointestinal system (stomach, intestines, colon).

What Type of Allergy Testing Do We Do?

Our Vancouver Naturopaths test allergies using three types of allergy tests; blood, scratch and Vega testing. These types of tests are better suited to chronic allergens. Skin testing, which you may be familiar with, is best suited for acute allergens, but is not a good test for chronic allergies.

How Does the Blood Testing Work?

All you need to do is have a small pin prick and this will produce enough blood for the test. Your Naturopath will then ship it off for testing
How does skin (scratch) allergy testing work?

Skin allergy testing is a method for diagnosing allergies that attempts to provoke a small, controlled, allergic response. In the prick (scratch) test, a few drops of the purified allergen are gently pricked on to the skin surface of the forearm. This test is usually done in order to identify allergies to pet dander, dust, pollen or dust mites. This is the most common allergy testing method.

How Does the Vega Testing Work?

This is a pain free and simple diagnostic test. You are seated and a wrist band is wrapped around your non-dominant hand. Your Naturopath then places an ampoule in the machine while performing kinesiology muscle strength testing on your dominant hand. This process is repeated to narrow down the allergen that most affects you.
