Dr Aberdour's approach
A combination of traditional and modern investigational techniques are used to help determine the best course of naturopathic treatment for each patient. A detailed health history is taken on the first visit, a physical exam is performed and blood tests are recommended, as required, in order to establish a clearer sense of the underlying causes of your symptoms.
Dr Aberdour believes that the 6 principles of naturopathic medicine, which have guided naturopathic physicians for decades, are a solid foundation for the diagnoses, treatment and prevention of illness:
1. Do no harmUse the most natural and least aggressive therapies that will be effective in each case. The aggressiveness or invasiveness of treatment should suit the aggressiveness or severity of the health problem.
2. Treat the cause
Find and treat
the underlying cause of illness, not just the symptoms of the illness.
3. Treat the whole person
Heal the
whole person, not just the parts.
4. The healing power of nature
Support the ability of the body to heal itself, intervene only as much as
required to re-establish a healthy balance and use the most natural approaches
possible.
5. Doctor as teacher
Explain to
patients what is being done, why, and how it will help. Educate and empower the
patient so that they may help to heal themselves.
6. Prevention
Whenever possible, do
what is possible to prevent pain, disease or suffering instead of waiting to
treat it.
