Dr. Laura Gronkjaer – Chiropractor
With a keen interest in human anatomy and physiology, and a desire to help people feel their best, Dr. Laura always knew she wanted to get into healthcare. Chiropractic quickly became her first choice. After studying biology and kinesiology at university, Dr. Laura completed her doctorate at Palmer College of Chiropractic West, graduating as valedictorian with Summa Cum Laude honours and a 4.0 GPA. Her love of the mountains brought her back to Vancouver where she has been in clinical practice for several years.
As a chiropractor, Dr. Laura specializes in treating the joints, muscles, and nerves of the body, particularly the spine. Dr. Laura’s treatments focus on correcting alignment and biomechanics to ensure that the body can move with ease. She evaluates the body as a whole, focusing on the spine as the foundation, as well as addressing the muscles and other joints of the body. She uses gentle techniques to align the spine, such as a low-force handheld instrument called Activator. This is a great treatment option for patients that would benefit from chiropractic care but that don’t prefer the “twisting” or “cracking” that is sometimes associated with manual manipulation. During an Activator adjustment, the patient is laying in a neutral position and the gentle adjustment is made using the low-force instrument. For patients that prefer manual manipulation, she offers this type of treatment as well.
She combines her spinal treatments with soft tissue therapies to treat chronic muscle tension and repetitive stress injuries. She uses Graston to help break myofascial adhesions, in order to restore range of motion, correct movement patterns, and decrease pain and tension.
Dr. Laura’s integrated approach allows patients to feel better, faster. Whether you are dealing with a new injury, have experienced chronic discomfort, or just want to have your spine checked, Dr. Laura will help you feel your best. Her goal is to get patients back to the lifestyle and activities that make them happy.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Laura loves to spend her time in the mountains, exploring in hiking boots in the summer and on skis in the winter. She feels lucky that we have such a wonderful playground right at our city’s doorstep. After travelling to 26 different countries (most of which were during a year-long, on-a-dime backpack trip at age 20), Dr. Laura feels that no place is more beautiful than Vancouver. She is happy that she can use her skills and knowledge to help patients feel better so that they can get out and enjoy all of the fun that this great city has to offer.

“I would highly recommend her…”
Dr. Laura provided me with fantastic care. As a medical student, I spend a lot of my time hunched over a desk and get neck pain and headaches as a consequence. The targeted care plan she created greatly helped this. In addition, she was able to provide me with tips on ergonomics and stretching that I could implement at home. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a chiropractor with a broad set of knowledge, skills and a focus on holistic care.

“she’s kept me active without pain.”
“I am a runner and found that if I ran more than a few kms that later that day I would have aches and tension in my low back and hips. It seemed that no matter now much I stretched it would still be sore. I saw Dr. Laura and she explained how the alignment of my pelvis and low back was affecting how I ran and how my joints were absorbing shock as I was hitting the pavement. She treated me and now I find I can run without aggravating my low back and hips. I see Dr. Laura about once a month for a “tune up” and she’s kept me active without pain.”

“Am so happy I found Dr. Laura!”.
“A coworker told me about Dr. Laura after I was complaining about headaches. I was getting headaches at least once a week and, while they weren’t debilitating, they were definitely annoying. I spend a lot of time on my computer at work, and have a lot of tension in my shoulders and neck. I didn’t think my headaches were related to my spine, but my coworker encouraged me to get evaluated by Dr. Laura, and it became quickly apparent that my headaches were coming from my neck, because within a few treatments the headaches became less and less often and now I haven’t had a headache in a few months! Am so happy I found Dr. Laura!”
